There are many approaches to symphonic metal, and most are terrible (by which we can mean cheesy, over-the-top, and other negative adjectives). Then, there is the hard-to-get-right-but-worth-it approach taken by Lamentari on their debut (!!!) album, which is not to layer in symphonic elements as an afterthought or as a crutch to support weak riffs and poor compositions, but rather, to compose songs with metallic and symphonic components in perfect union. So aggressive, yet so beautiful!

The symphonic qualities of this EP are simply breath taking. If that wasn't already enough it's full of beauty and has a heart of darkness that reaches deep down. Symphonic black metal done right. You got to love it. Bring a full length soon, please.

The first 30 seconds of "Revenge by Fire" convinced me to get the whole album! It is a face-melting blend of speed and black metal, reminiscent of Hellripper! KVAEN is a Swedish solo project much like Hellripper but many known guest musicians helped J. Björnfot in his endeavor. Altogether it is really a solid debut album, I loved the melodies and the pace changes in the second half too, ending with a "calm" instrumental one. Well-done!!

La traversée du désert n'aura pas duré quarante jours mais quatre longues années... Avec Панихида, Батюшка renaît enfin de ses cendres et, bien que désormais seul (ou plus exactement entouré de deux chanteurs), Христофор accomplit un miracle. Il s'inscrit dans la continuité de Литоургиiа avec un black metal orthodoxe qui nous convie ici à une cérémonie dédiée aux morts. Sa vision est englobante : les mélodies, la gravité et le silence font toucher le paradis ; l'agressivité est luciférienne.

Masterful use of acoustic passages and synth stuff. This is definitely my favorite black metal-dungeon synth kinda album I've found recently. Each track flows into the next so well, I cannot recommend it enough.
